MATCH REPORT: Coventry City 1-2 Luton Town
Met up with a few fellow fans for some pre match beers on Saturday, and the banter was all about our game against the Hatters. They are going well while we have hit a bad patch. But we are Coventry City supporters so we are used to set backs, if we didn’t have negativity during a season we wouldn’t know what to do. But as we left the pub we were met by a torrential downpour of sleety rain and a strong gale. A couple of lads decided to return to the warmth of the boozer, but us hardy souls carried on and got in to the Ricoh soaked through!
Luton had a good following which always adds to the atmosphere.
There wasn’t much between the two sides for half an hour, but what irritates me about my team is how they seem to run out of ideas once they get near the away goal, they have nice build ups, but they lose confidence, and shoot wide or straight at the keeper.
But Luton are the opposite as they defend solidly, but give them a chance or two and they’ll stick one away. And so when they went One up in the 38 minute it wasn’t a surprise, they looked sharp and composed.
The second half carried on in the same manner as the first half, we huffed and puffed, while the Hatters looked the more likely to wrap up all three points. And after 56 minutes they banged home a second goal, resulting in many home fans heading off out into the freezing cold and back to a warm home or like I did back to the boozer.
I usually tough it out and stay to the end of games, but thought our players looked disinterested, so joined the others and went with 20 minutes left.
Maybe disinterested is a bit harsh, probably more like not as good as they’re opponents? But I have to remind myself this is League One so players will make poor passes, and wrong decisions, and many are young and still learning.
So up next are the Christmas fixtures, and games come thick and fast, and we could go on a run and get back into the play-off spot? So will us long suffering fans be all full of Ho Ho Ho or going round saying Bah Humbug?
Welcome to the world of Coventry City!
