Burton Albion are lining up a move for Plymouth Argyle star Graham Carey as Nigel Clough looks to bring the creative midfielder to the Pirelli Stadium.

Argyle were relegated last season following a terrible run towards the end of the campaign that led to manager Derek Adams losing his job.

The 30-year-old is out of contract this summer and due to the club’s relegation and the decision to sack their Scottish manager, Carey could well be open to a move.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Burton are leading the race to sign the creative Irishman with Nigel Clough known to be a fan of his talents.

Carey has become a firm favourite since moving south from Ross County in 2015 scoring 49 goals in 197 appearances. Last season he led Argyle with key passes attempted (64) while was third on the team for chances created with 31.

He had six goals and 10 assists in 44 matches though was unable to prevent the Home Park outfit stave off relegation.

Burton have already signed midfielder Jon Joe O’Toole from Northampton this season after his contract at Six Fields expired and they will be looking to bring in further new faces ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
