Swindon Town are hoping to capture the signing of talented defender Liam Lindsay on loan from Stoke City, according to reports.

The centre-back won promotion from League One with Barnsley and is coveted by a number of teams with the Robins looking to seal a deal ahead of the competition.

After starring in Daniel Stendel’s side that won promotion in 2018/19, the 25-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Potters this year after they brought him from Oakwell for £2 million in the summer of 2019.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, John Sheridan’s side are trying to secure a deal to bring Lindsay to the County Ground and aid their leaky defence.

He would be a very smart capture for the League One strugglers. Having started out at Partick Thistle, he was close to signing for Oxford United before a late bid from Barnsley saw him move to Yorkshire.

He formed a key partnership at the back for the Tykes alongside Ethan Pinnock but left the club after securing promotion to the Championship.

He has not been in Michael O’Neill’s plans this season and is set for a deadline day move, whether it is to the County Ground remains to be seen.

Swindon lost to Hull at the weekend meaning they have now won just once in their last 11 matches having conceded 50 goals in their 25 games so far.
