Sunderland have seen a £1 million bid for Dion Sanderson rejected by Wolves, according to the Northern Echo.
Lee Johnson is desperate to add defensive options to his squad ahead of pre-season but, so far, his efforts to land Sanderson have been knocked back.
The defender was on loan at the Stadium of Light last season and impressed during his 26 appearances. The Black Cats were defeated in the League One play-semi finals by Lincoln and are hoping to go one better in 2021/22.
Sanderson has only made one appearance for Wolves, a League Cup match against Aston Villa, but has experienced the Championship during a loan spell at Cardiff.
Given his performances last season, it makes sense for Sunderland to try and make his move permanent but it appears his parent club are only willing to let him go at the right price.
Wolves are looking to sell the player this summer but it is thought they are holding out for closer to £2 million, which Sunderland are likely to pay.
The former Premier League side are flexing their spending power in the third-tier after seeing some of their high earners leave at the end of last season.
Grant Leadbitter, Chris Maguire and Max Power were among seven players released as the Black Cats chase their first addition of the summer.
