In another transfer twist, Plymouth Argyle’s star midfielder Graham Carey is reported to be heading to Europe this summer with Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia the potential destination.
The popular midfielder is out of contract and has been linked with a move to Burton Albion but it appears the Brewers face competition from abroad for his services.
Sofia finished second in the Bulgarian First League this season, a single point behind Ludogorets and appear to have an eye on bringing the Irishman to the Balgarska Armia Stadium.
Argyle are hoping they can persuade Carey to stay but with Derek Adams departure and the club’s relegation to League Two, it could be a hard sell.
Whether Carey is interested in uprooting to Bulgaria remains to be seen and perhaps he’s more likely to want to stay in England yet playing for the 31-time Bulgarian Champions might be a tempting opportunity.
Sofia have not won the First League since 2008 but are still one of the top sides in the South-Eastern European country with regular appearances in the Europa League.
If Carey goes he will be missed after netting 49 goals in 197 appearances since joining from Ross County in 2015. Last season he scored six goals, assisted on another 10 and created 31 chances.
