Mansfield Town are beginning their summer transfer rebuild and will hold talks with Burton loanee Stephen Quinn, according to Stags boss Nigel Clough.
The 35-year-old is out of contract with the Brewers this summer and has impressed under his former boss at Field Mill.
Quinn, who has played most of his career much higher up the football league ladder, has added some much-needed experience to the Stags midfield this season. He has made 20 appearances since arriving in January and Nigel Clough is hopeful the player will be part of his squad next season.
“We will certainly have a chat with Stephen Quinn and see what his position is, but I think we have done most of our business in terms of existing players,” the Stags boss admitted.
“We’re very happy with our midfield. Ollie Clarke is out at the moment,” he said in the Chad. “But with him, George Maris, Stephen Quinn, if we’ve got him, George Lapslie, Harry Charsley and Jason Law I think we’ve got a good midfield.”
Clough and Mansfield Town chief executive David Sharpe have identified eight targets this summer and are hoping to get some of them done early having already made contact with the players’ representatives.
“We have identified our top eight targets that we want to come in, so we are working on those and will do our best to try to get the number one targets in,” Clough said. “We are going to try to get some early business done as that’s the best way. If we can get one or two in – even two or three out the eight.
“But there’s some we’re going to have to wait for decisions. We have made contact with all eight’s representatives or clubs or whatever. So we have started the ball rolling with them all.”
Mansfield have also confirmed James Perch will be staying for another year after extending his contract although long-serving full-back Mal Benning will be leaving Field Mill this summer after making 251 appearances for the club.
