Cambridge United manager Colin Calderwood looks to continue his summer rebuild by signing a new striker.
The U’s really struggled in attack last season after leaving themselves with just Jabo Ibehre, Barry Corr and Ade Azeez to call upon and of those only Ibehre remains under contract for 2019-20.
With Cambridge finishing just six-points above the drop zone last season, there is a real need to get the recruitment right this summer and the U’s, according to reports, have turned their attention to out of contract striker Harvey Knibbs who was recently released by Aston Villa.
The-20-year-old has had plenty of game time in the Villa U23’s last season but has never played a first-team game for the Villans.
The U’s have a good relationship with the Birmingham club having signed both Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Jake Doyle-Hayes on loan last season and Calderwood is thought to have been impressed by the youngster.
Cambridge started their summer recruitment drive by signing former Port Vale winger Luke Hannant last earlier this week and will be looking to bring in at least two more forwards before the side returns for pre-season.
The U’s are also hoping to sign out-of-contract Swindon Town full-back Kyle Knoyle after the 22-year-old rejected a new deal at the County Ground.
