Cambridge United are plotting a swoop for a full-back from a League Two rival as they step up their summer recruitment.
Swindon Town’s versatile right-back Kyle Knoyle is being linked with a move to the Abbey Stadium as Colin Calderwood tries to build a squad capable of improving on last season’s dismal performance.
Knoyle, 22, is out of contract with the Robins this summer and has been offered a new deal to stay at the County Ground but he is thought to be looking at joining League Two rivals Cambridge instead.
Colin Calderwood, a defender himself during his playing days, is hoping to persuade the former West Ham trainee to move east and become an important part of his rebuild at the Abbey.
Richie Wellens did offer the defender a new deal at the end of the season but reports suggest that Knoyle did not respond to the contract offer in the timeframe required leading to speculation that his future lies away from the Wiltshire club.
Last season he made 42 appearances playing in both full-back positions while often looking to get forward. He plays with plenty of energy and would be a good fit at Cambridge finishing the campaign with some impressive numbers.
During the 2018-19 campaign he put in 34 crosses, made 154 interceptions, 64 successful tackles and completed an impressive 50 successful dribbles.
