Bolton Wanderers are closing in on the signing of last season’s League Two top scorer Eoin Doyle, according to reports.

The Irish striker hit a phenomenal 25 goals for Swindon Town last season in the fourth tier, helping the Robins win the title and seal promotion back to League One.

Doyle is highly sought after this summer with Mansfield Town, Salford City and Swindon all keen to pen him to sign him up for the 2020/21 campaign, but according to James Goodwin, Bolton Wanderers have made a serious offer and could get the deal done.

It will come as a blow to Richie Wellens who wants Doyle to return to the County Ground, but after only agreeing a short-term deal in January, it was always likely Swindon would face competition from rivals for his signature.

Doyle relies on playing in a side that can create opportunities for him, which is why he struggled at Bradford, but Bolton will hope that under Ian Evatt, they will play the perfect brand of passing football to help the 32-year-old striker thrive.

Evatt did wonders with previous club Barrow, helping them gain the nickname ‘Barrowcelona’ due to their passing style of play. He will be aiming to build a side that can see the Trotters bounce back to League One at the first attempt next season.
