Portsmouth full-back Callum Johnson looks set to depart Fratton Park before the window closes with a number of clubs showing interest.
The 24-year-old was one of Pompey’s most consistent performers last season but looks set to move on after as Danny Cowley rebuilds the south coast club with his own players.
D3D4 Football understands Wigan Athletic were one of the clubs keen to bring in the talented right-back but their interest has waned as they are now looking to recruit a player from the Championship who has previously played in the Premier League.
Johnson, however, is unlikely to be available for long. The attacking wide man has a lot of admirers and with good reason. His performances in 2020/21 we more than solid and his stats in most areas are extremely strong.
He was involved in a lot of Portsmouth’s good play last season making 2,203 passes, second on the team only to Tom Naylor.
He also put in 132 crosses during the regular league campaign with only Marcuss Harness putting in more (139), but led the team with 39 of those picking out a teammate. This ability to provide a productive attacking threat led to the former Accrington man creating nine chances and bagging two assists.
He also won back possession 30 times in the opponent’s half, the fifth most of any Portsmouth player during the 2020/21 campaign.
He was third on the team in tackles won (80) and made more than 200 hundred interceptions to help his side reach the League One play-offs.
D3D4 Football understands a number of sides are showing an interest and with just a week remaining in the transfer window, Johnson will be a good signing if a deal can be agreed.
