Northampton Town manager Keith Curle has revealed he is closing in on ‘one or two’ transfer targets as he looks to add to his squad.
The Cobblers opened their League One campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to AFC Wimbledon and Curle has admitted he wants to add a few more players to his side before the transfer window closes.
Nine new faces have arrived at Sixfields since the end of last season including weekend goalscorer Ricky Corboa, but with a few injury issues already causing the boss a headache, the Cobblers’ manager is keen to continue strengthening.
“We’re getting closer,” Curle told the Chronicle & Echo on Tuesday afternoon. “There’ll be a knock-on effect because we’re making enquiries and we’ve made offers.
“Some of the players we’re interested in have got other options and they need to make sure they’re making the right decision for themselves.”
“I’ve met with one player and I’ve arranged another meeting through an agent for another player and that’s something I always do.”
Despite the fact that time is running out, with the transfer window closing on 05 October, Curle insists on meeting the players to judge their characters before bringing them to the club.
“Even though we’re getting towards the final stages of the window, I’m not going to change my policy because not only do I want to bring in the right ability, I also want to bring the right characters into the group,” he added.
“The group at the minute is taking shape nicely and the team spirit, the togetherness and the collective vision we have in the changing room, I’m not going to bring in somebody that I don’t think will fit into that.”
