Crewe manager David Artell is delighted with his side’s defending following an impressive win at Grimsby last weekend.

The former-defender was impressed with the way his Railwaymen stood up to a barrage from the Mariners and ended the game with a clean-sheet and another three points.

Crewe have made an impressive start to the new season following an opening day defeat to Plymouth. Last season’s away strugglers have shown no such signs in the early running this campaign following victories over Oldham, Crawley and Grimsby on the road.

The Crewe manager was extremely pleased to see his side defend ‘properly’ in order to take the points back to Cheshire.

“It was a terrific away performance both in defence & attack,” said the Manager of the Month nominee.

“To a man they were terrific. We defended set pieces well, the long throws & the bombardment into the box.

“You can see why they’ve (Grimsby) scored plenty of goals because they don’t mess around getting it forward & getting it in the box. But we defended properly & in the second half attacked with more purpose & got the goals our play deserved.

“It’s just a win, just another three points, but it’s important that we perform like that.”

Crewe have already amassed some impressive stats this season and currently sit top of the chances created table (38), are fourth in xG and also lead in key passes completed (43).

They face Cambridge at Gresty road on Saturday and currently sit third in League Two, two points behind leaders Exeter.
