Walsall are taking an interest in former Bradford City defender Ben Richards-Everton having invited the player for a trial at the Bescott Stadium.

The centre-back started the Saddlers’ friendly with Aston Villa and was one of five trialists currently with Mike Flynn’s side for pre-season.

The 30-year-old defender is hoping to earn himself a move back to the EFL having played for Barnet in the National League last season, making 38 league appearances and notching four goals for the Bees.

The 6ft 5″ defender had previously been with Bradford City having joined them from Accrington Stanley in 2019. In total, he appeared 51 times for the Bantams in all competitions.

Despite losing the friendly 4-0, Richards-Everton put in a solid effort although he was at fault for the Premier League side’s second goal.

It remains to be seen whether he can earn himself a contract, but Mike Flynn is clearly happy with the trialist currently with him at Walsall. Timmy Abrahams and Aneurin Livermore are also amongst them having played for Flynn at Newport.

On the players hoping to earn deals with the Saddlers, Flynn simply said:

“Aneurin I know well, Ben Richards-Everton I know well, and Timmy as well.

“It is what it is. They’ll have to keep working hard, and we’ll see what happens.”
