Tranmere Rovers are expected to sign Bradford City top scorer James Vaughan on loan until the end of the season.
The Bradford captain is unikely to feature this weekend for the Bantams following reports that he is poised to move to Micky Mellon’s League One strugglers.
The news will have come as a shock to Bradford fans, who were expecting Vaughan to return to first team action against Cheltenham tonight following a two-game suspension after picking up 10 yellow cards since the start of the campaign.
The former Everton striker has scored 11 times for Bradford this season but a move closer to his home on the Wirral is thought to be one of the motivating factors behind the potential move.
The 31-year-old still has two-years remaining on his deal with the Bantams but with Gary Bowyer looking to shake things up in what could prove to be a big gamble, Vaughan and Eoin Doyle are expected to exit Valley Parade.
Bradford have only lost twice in their last 12 games and remain just four points outside the automatic promotion places but a run of five games without a win has seen pressure mount on their former Blackpool boss.
They host Cheltenham Town this weekend in a game that could have a big bearing on the outcome of both clubs seasons.
