Tranmere Rovers supporters would be involved in helping to make sure any new stadium would be designed with their views in mind, Mark Palios told D3D4 Football.

The Chairman of the Super White Army has been working on a possible stadium move for the club that would look to make them a sustainable Championship outfit.

A feasibility study will go ahead to look at the Sports City Project on Bidston Dock that would have a new stadium for Tranmere Rovers at its heart. If the feasibility study returns a positive outcome regarding the economic sustainability of a move then the fans would be able to have a say on the design of the new stadium, Mark Palios confirmed.

“What’s important is what the fans want so they will be involved in the design of the thing from a fan’s perspective and we’ve already got the organs of the trust. We’ll have the debate on the economics and if that passes the test then you can have the debate on ok what will it look like, so they can be positively involved in the design of the stadium,” he said speaking on the D3D4 Football Podcast.

Mark Palios was a key figure in working out how to fund the new Wembley stadium at a time when the FA was in financial dire straights, and he was confident, should it ever get to that stage, the funding of Tranmere’s new home wouldn’t be a problem.

“As for the funding of it, look I’m going to be arrogant now, we built Wembley when the FA was bust and that was £850 million so building this, if you put a hotel in it, could be £70 million. I don’t even know what the design is so I can’t cost it, but I have an idea how we’ll fund the capital stack but there’s no point debating this at this time until I’ve got a designed stadium.”

Despite finishing last season with 75 points, the club narrowly missed out on a play-off spot and have spent the offseason looking at how to improve the squad in order to take that next step.

Neill Byrne was signed from Hartlepool for an undisclosed fee yesterday adding some much-needed experience to a young group and Jon Nolan was also arrived to bolster the club’s midfield. Mark Palios was hopeful the young side at the club can be competitive in the 2022/23 season.

“For me I think we’ve made some good signings. It’s quite young as a team but some experience has just been injected today and last night,” he said.

“I think you’ve always got to have patience with this but we will for the first time have some assets on the pitch which you can sell but the objective, at the end of the day, is always to be competitive right until the end of the season.”
