Tranmere Rovers are in advanced talks with Aston Villa forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

Recently promoted Rovers are preparing for the challenge of League One football and have set their sights on the England Under-20 international as a replacement for James Norwood, who joined Ipswich earlier in the transfer window.

Hepburn Murphy, who is Villa’s youngest ever Premier League player, is an exciting prospect who is capable of playing on either wing, as well as in attack. The youngster discussed his first goal for Cambridge with Birmingham Mail in March:

“Most of my goals are actually from that angle, low and hard across goal and once I got it there I thought ‘I always score from here, so just do what I normally do’ and I did it.”

According to Football Insider, Villa want to send Hepburn-Murphy out on loan to further his development and talks are well underway with the Merseyside club.

The striker spent the second half of the season on loan at Cambridge United in League Two, where he scored twice in 16 games. He is held in high esteem at Villa Park and he has already made 17 senior appearances for the club. Indeed, he is the second-youngest player in Villa’s history to have played for the first-team, where he featured against Sunderland in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 176 days.
