John McGreal has hailed Swindon Town the ‘best in the division’ following last nights 3-0 victory at the County Ground.
Swindon came into the game off the back of three straight wins but were beaten by a U’s outfit that had struggled to find their rhythm so far in 2019/20.
A brace from Theo Robinson, who spent time on loan at Swindon last season, and a Tom Eastman strike gave the Essex side a comfortable victory following an injury to Robins centre-back Mathieu Baudry.
After the game, the Colchester head coach was full of praise for Richie Wellens and the work he’s done at the County Ground.
“I have to give (Swindon Town) boss Richie (Wellens) an unbelievable amount of credit,” he told the Colchester Gazette.
“From what we’ve watched here this evening, they’re the best team in this division.
“We gave them the respect with how we’ve come – we didn’t sit in and we felt as though we had to go with a high press.
“Had we sat in continuously, they’d have picked us apart.”
The win was the U’s third in the last five games and they will be looking to find consistency after McGreal chose to make a number of changes last night.
“You can pick out anyone from that performance because we’ve beaten a top, top team and we’ve got a great result.
“The next question will be can they carry on and we’ll soon know that when they come back in on Thursday.”
Colchester are back at home on Saturday as they face Leyton Orient.
