Sheffield Wednesday are still chasing Hull City forward Malik Wilks as the transfer saga looks set to continue with the two clubs at loggerheads over the transfer fee.
The League One club have been interested in signing the 23-year-old but are yet to get the deal over the line with wranglings about the players value ongoing.
According to Yorkshire Live, Wednesday have agreed personal terms with Wilks but a transfer will not be forthcoming unless the Owls increase their £200,000 offer, a price deemed too low by the Hull City hierarchy.
“If Sheffield [Wednesday] are going to come back to the table and with all respect to Sheffield [Wednesday], they have to respect the market value of the player otherwise there is more interest and we’ll probably take it,” said Hull vice-chairman Tan Kesler.
Wilks is entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Tigers and missed their opening game of the season due to injury. It remains to be seen whether he can force his way back into the first-team picture with the Championship club but was allocated a squad number for the 2022/23 season.
Wilks was a key part of the Hull 2020/21 promotion side, netting 19 league goals to help the side win the League One title. He is seen as an exciting, versatile player and Darren Moore is keen to add him to the Wednesday squad.
The Owls drew their opening game of the season, sharing the spoils in a six-goal thriller with Portsmouth at Hillsborough. Wednesday are one of the favourites to win promotion this season but will need to avoid injuries to key players.
Callum Patterson, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Dennis Adeniran are all doubts for this weekend’s clash with MK Dons, last season’s play-off semi-finalists and another of this year’s promotion hopefuls.
