Swindon Town remain the front runners to keep Eoin Doyle at the club this summer despite interest from Mansfield Town.

Doyle helped the Robins win the League Two title this season after the EFL’s decision to rank teams by points per game following the postponement of the campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Irish striker, who had enjoyed prolific spells at Chesterfield and Oldham, was loaned to Richie Wellens side last summer following a difficult spell with Bradford City in League One during the 2018/19 season.

He was so good, scoring more than 20 goals before New Year, that Bradford recalled him in January only to persist in using him as a target man. Doyle did eventually return to Swindon, finishing the campaign with 25 goals in 36 appearances at the County Ground.

He signed a short-term deal in January that will expire at the end of this month which has alerted the interest of League Two Mansfield. However, according to James Goodwin, Swindon remain the favourites to land the 32-year-old.

It would make sense considering the success he has enjoyed in two spells under Richie Wellens, firstly at Oldham where he scored 16 times during the 2017/18 campaign and then with Swindon this season.

Manfield have a new director of football, David Sharpe, who has been brought in to help Graham Coughlan land the right targets this summer following a disappointing campaign for the Stags in 2019/20.

They landed Jordan Bowery earlier this week, but are expected to add further attacking players before the new season gets underway and will continue to monitor the Doyle situation with Swindon.
