Swindon Town are hoping to sign Lincoln City midfielder Tom Pett, according to sources.

The out-of-favour midfielder is likley to move this month and several online sources have suggested the player will be heading to Wiltshire to play for League Two high flyers Swindon Town.

Pett has not had a look in this season with the Imps and Michael Appleton has suggested the player will be on his way during January.

The former Oxford boss told Lincoln live: “I’ve spoken to him (Pett) a lot over the last few weeks. He’s desperate for game time and he’s probably not going to get that here.”

That will be music to the ears of Swindon manager Richie Wellens, who has seen his team go through a mini injury crisis in recent weeks. Defensively the Robins are in real bother with Dion Conroy, Matthieu Baudry and Zeki Fryers all out, but have coped exceptionally well.

According to a number of reliable informers, Swindon are hoping to land the 28-year-old before the end of the current transfer window.

Swindon are sitting three points clear at the top of League Two and have been on an incredible run despite the injury issues. Eoin Doyle was, however, recalled last week by Bradford.

The striker had netted 23 times already for the Robins but in Jerry Yates, the club already have a player capable of taking up the slack.

Richie Wellens’ side face a trip to Newport at the weekend as they look to continue their dominance of the fourth tier.
