Swindon Town are the reported front runners to sign Lincoln City’s top prospect Ellis Chapman after the youngster turned down a new contract at Sincil Bank.

The 19-year-old is considered to be a player with huge potential by those at the Imps and the new contract appears to indicate they see him as a player who could have a bright future.

It appears, however, that Chapman may see his football career being better served elsewhere after it was reported he has turned down a new deal with Michael Appleton’s side in order to get first-team football elsewhere.

According to former agent and current scout James Goodwin, Swindon Town are leading the race for his signature.

Swindon won the League Two title this season playing some excellent football under the guidance of Richie Wellens.

Chapman could well fit into their system and play in the midfield alongside the likes of Michael Doughty as the Robins look to reshape their side ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Wellens has, so far, made some excellent recruitment choices at Swindon with Eoin Doyle, Jerry Yates and Anthony Grant amongst the players he brought to the club who have made a significant impact. If Ellis Chapman does join then it could well be another smart piece of business by the former Doncaster midfielder.
