Swindon Town are set to complete the signing of a League One midfielder according to reports from BBC Wiltshire.

Portsmouth’s Adam May is poised to join the club on a season-long loan deal as Richie Wellens re-shapes his side ahead of an expected promotion push in 2019-20.

The 21-year-old midfielder is hoping to continue his promising development by getting some first team minutes under his belt after only making five appearances for Pompey last season, none of which came in the league.

May has progressed through the Portsmouth youth academy and played 12 times for Aldershot in the National League before Christmas while on loan, scoring three times.

He was unable to break into the first team squad and was some way down the pecking order behind the likes of Tom Naylor, Bryn Morris and Ben Close. He is still thought to be in Kenny Jackett’s plans with his contract running until June 2020.

He joins a Swindon side that finished mid-table in League Two in 2018-19 but who are looking to push for promotion next season with Richie Wellens expressing his desire to have a smaller squad containing more quality.

The Robins have already signed Tyler Reid from Swansea and are known to have spoken with at least one striker and one full-back in the last couple of weeks.
