Sunderland are currently the front runner to sign Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo.
The 20-year-old striker is in demand this January with Doncaster another club linked to the London-born frontman, but the Black Cats are willing to meet Bristol City’s wage contribution demands in order to gazump their rivals.
Black Cats boss, Phil Parkinson, is desperate to sign players who can improve his side’s attacking output following a difficult start to life in the North East for the former Bolton manager.
He has made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one more striker and, according to the Sun, the club are in pole position to land their target.
Semenyo has previously been on loan at Newport County where his pace and ability on the ball impressed a number of onlookers at the time. He netted six times in 32 appearances for the Exiles but is looking for a step up and the Black Cats will certainly be that.
Sunderland are also interested in Burton striker Liam Boyce who is out of contract this summer. The Brewers are reportedly holding out for a fee close to £250,000 for their star attacker but they may be willing to negotiate rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
