The Black Cats were hoping to bring Rangers midfielder, and former Salop man, Gregg Docherty to the Stadium of Light on loan but they have now turned their attendtion to current Town midfielder Ollie Norburn, according to Sky’s Keith Downie.
Norburn is considered to be a Rolls Royce at the heart of the Shrewsbury midfield and it is unlikey Sam Ricketts will allow the player to leave without a fight.
Sunderland have a lot of resources and could be tempted to splash the cash in order to secure prime targets with the automatic promotion places now in reach thanks to a good run of form.
Phil Parkinson’s men have not lost in the last seven games and have won each of the last three to pull within six points of the top two. They have been looking to bring in a team capable of keeping this good run going and Norburn is seen as an ideal choice.
The former Tranmere man has made 23 appearances for Salop this season in all competitions and netted three times. He offers energy and tenacity in the centre of the pitch and is a key man at The Meadows.
Sunderland host Doncaster Rovers on Friday night as they bid to keep the pressure on those above them.
