Sunderland’s hopes of landing striker Matteo Bajamich have been given a boost after the player’s move to Houston Dynamo appears to have collapsed.

The Argentine youngster has been on the Black Cats radar with the club offering £500,000 for his services but it appeared they would lose out to MLS side Houston Dynamo who themselves lodged a bid close to the £1m mark.

However, it appears that move has fallen through due to issues relating to the player’s registration. The Northern Echo reported that a complicated third party arrangement has scuppered the move giving Sunderland hope of landing the 21-year-old.

Bajamich scored nine goals in 21 games for Instituto during the 2019/20 campaign and his club are planning to restart talks with Houston in order to get the deal done.

It is also believed the Argentine club have made contact with Sunderland to try and keep their options open but the Wearsiders are not interested in striking a deal unless they get complete control over the player’s registration rights.

The League One side are happy to keep their original offer on the table in case Bajamich’s move to Houston remains dead in the water, but they will not increase the bid.

The offer is thought to include several add-ons and a sell-on clause that would see Instituto benefit from any future sale of the striker.

The Argentine club are keen to find a solution quickly with their vice-president, Mariano Carbonari, confirming they need to raise funds by selling Bajamich and his team-mate Malcom Braida.
