Sunderland have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts on loan until the end of the season.
Roberts is set to cancel his current temporary move with Troyes to move to the North East and join up with the high-flying Black Cats.
Roberts, 24, is a left-footed attacker who can play on either flank. He has enjoyed several loan spells, perhaps most notably with Celtic, and is set for another switch, this time to Lee Johnson’s League One table-toppers according to Football Insider.
Born in London, Roberts started out at Fulham before making the switch to Manchester City in 2015. He has only made one first-team appearance with Pep Guardiola’s side but has tasted Premier League football both with Fulham and Norwich City.
During an extended loan spell with Celtic, the winger netted 15 goals in 55 league appearances and was well-liked north of the border.
Sunderland have enjoyed a good campaign so far in the third-tier and showed their best side in the recent 5-0 hammering of Sheffield Wednesday.
That result, which included a Ross Stewart hat-trick, put the Black Cats top of the table albeit having played more than both their closest rivals in Rotherham and Wigan.
With their match against Fleetwood on 02 January postponed, Sunderland are next in action on 08 January when they face a tough test at Adams Park against Wycombe Wanderers.
