Stevenage are set to sign midfielder Michael Timlin, according to reports.

The former Southend United midfielder is set for a return to the Lamex following his release by Stevenage earlier this summer, according to Southend Echo journalist Chris Phillips.

Timlin was released by Dino Maamria at the end of last season but is now expected to re-sign with the League Two strugglers.

The 34-year-old would add some much needed experience to a young team that has been decimated by injuries since the beginning of the campaign. This is thought to be one of the main reasons behind their disappointing start to the 2019/20 season.

Stevenage finished one point off the play-offs in 2018/19 but are the only team in the fourth tier yet to win a game and dismissed Dino Maamria following seven games without victory.

Mark Sampson has been given the role of caretaker but has been unable to stop the rot in his two games in charge so far, losing to Carlisle on Saturday before being beaten by Northampton 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Timlin coming back in could give this young team an experienced head to help them get through what has been a tough period of games.

With first team players slowly making their way back to fitness, Stevenage could yet have a very good campaign but the club will be anxious to bag their first victory and climb away from the bottom of League Two sooner rather than later.
