Stevenage are in talks with recently released Northampton midfielder Sam Foley, according to D3D4 sources.
The 32-year-old made 60 appearances during his two-year spell at Sixfields but has now been deemed surplus to requirements. Cobblers boss Keith Curle have begun embarking on an overhaul of the playing staff at Northampton, in a bid to help guide his side back to League One.
Foley began his career at Cheltenham but got his first real chance in football at Newport County, where he spent two-years before moving onto Yeovil, Shrewsbury and Port Vale; as well as Northampton. As a veteran of League Two, this would be a shrewd bit of business for Boro as Dino Maamria hopes to build a team that could surprise a few in the upcoming campaign.
Stevenage finished 10th in the league last season, just one point outside the tightly contested playoff spots, upsetting many of the pre-season predictions.
Dino Maamria will be hoping to find a leader in the middle of the team to help give his side the edge over other sides that found themselves in the promotion mix last season. The signing of Foley would be a good fit, given his experience at this level.
