Both Stevenage and Gillingham are chasing out of contract midfielder Ousseynou Cisse D3D4 Football understands.

The central midfielder was part of the MK Dons squad that won promotion via the automatics last season and is on the radar of a number of clubs with both Steve Evans’ Gills and Dino Maamria’s Stevenage having held discussions with the player.

The-28-year-old made 26 appearances for Paul Tisdale’s side last season, scoring twice and helping the team achieve promotion.

He made more successful defensive challenges per 90 minutes than any other midfielder at the club and was instrumental in getting MK through some tough games when they were suffering a serious injury crisis.

Stevenage are hoping to upgrade their midfield with Michael Timlin released earlier this summer and Cisse could be a perfect fit.

Gillingham have already had a busy summer bringing in five new players but they appear keen to keep the recruitment drive going and will be hoping to persuade Cisse to join the club for a season under new manager Steve Evans.

The French midfielder started his career in France with Amiens before moving to Dijon. Spells in Spain and Belgium followed before a return to France with Ligue 2 side Tours.

He joined MK Dons in the summer of 2017 and went on to play 63 times for the Buckinghamshire club.
