Morecambe have announced former Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson as the replacement for Derek Adams at the Mazuma Stadium.

The 46-year-old comes to the club after a successful three-and-a-half-year spell north of the border with The Well in which he guided the club to the Scottish Cup final and League Cup final in the same year for the first time since 1950-51.

Derek Adams led Morecambe to a historic promotion this season, guiding them to the third tier for the first time in their history. This success brought the Scotsman attention from elsewhere and he left the Lancashire club for Bradford City last week.

The club were quick to appoint a replacement, announcing today Stephen Robinson had signed a three-year deal with the Shrimps.

“I am delighted to have agreed to become the manager of Morecambe FC and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Robinson said upon arrival.

“I have been very impressed with the club and everyone involved in the process. We are looking to build on last season’s successful promotion campaign and look to firmly establish the club in league One.

“There is a lot of work in terms of recruitment in the coming weeks and getting us prepared for the club’s first season in League One.”

Morecambe joint chairman, Rod Taylor, was thrilled to appoint Robinson despite having a number of excellent applicants for the role.

“We are delighted that Stephen has agreed to join us for our first season in League One,” he said.

“We had a number of quality applicants but we were especially impressed by Stephen’s dynamism, his plans for the club and his contacts and we believe he will take the club forward.

“He has an excellent reputation and we are looking forward to working with him as we plan for a historic season.”

“We went on record that we wanted to move quickly on this appointment and we have every confidence in Stephen putting a strong squad together for life in League One,” joint chairman, Graham Howse, added.
