Shrewsbury Town are targetting an ambitious move to sign Stoke City forward Sam Vokes on loan, according to the Shropshire Star.
Steve Cotterill is rebuilding the team at the New Meadow and adding firepower is one of his primary concerns.
Getting a player with the pedigree of Sam Vokes would be a pretty big statement for the League One outfit regardless of the tough time the Welsh attacker has had with the Potters.
Still only 31, the 6ft 1″ striker could offer a lot at League One level and Cotterill is hoping an agreement can be reached with Stoke regarding the players’ wages.
Vokes signed for City for a fee in the region of £7million but his time at Championship outfit has been disappointing, scoring just eight goals in 78 league matches.
Vokes has, however, played and scored in the Premier League and he is still in his prime. Playing at Shrewsbury under Steve Cotterill could give the player a boost which may make a loan deal good for all concerned.
The Shropshire club are also set to sign Coventry keep Mark Marosi, according to Football Insider, with the 27-year-old having a medical at Salop later today.
Shrewsbury have already added four players this summer with Luke Leahy, Matt Pennington, Elliott Bennett and Ryan Bowman all signed on for the 2021/22 campaign.
