Shrewsbury Town are set to table an offer close to £200,000 for Morecambe striker Cole Stockton, D3D4 Football understands.
The Morecambe striker is subject to interest from a number of League One clubs and Salop are looking to land the man who netted 23 times for the Shrimps last season.
Morecambe have already rejected offers from both Fleetwood Town and Port Vale for their talismanic forward and will almost certainly do the same unless Shrewsbury make a significantly better offer.
Steve Cotterill has been clear about adding a couple more players to his squad before the transfer window closes on Thursday, but with competition hotting up, it is always a challenge to get deals over the line.
Morecambe are hoping for a bid of more than £500,000 plus add-ons for the player who has netted 47 times for the Shrimps in 138 appearances since signing for them in 2019.
The Shrimps are unlikely to accept an offer below Stockton’s value as they look set for another relegation battle in League One this season.
Keeping their main goal threat will give them the best chance of remaining in the third tier for a third straight year and, therefore, selling the player for a lower sum makes little sense.
Morecambe are still looking for their first league win of the season, having drawn three and lost three of their opening six matches.
