Shrewsbury Town are one of three teams reportedly chasing the signing of Sunderland striker Will Grigg this January.

The out of favour marksman is looking for first-team football after being left in limbo at the Stadium of Light but will have to wait as his transfer saga continues.

Grigg was a prolific goalscorer as League One level until being signed by Sunderland. He has since struggled to find any sort of form, netting just five times in 41 league appearances for the Black Cats.

His lack of playing time and previous exploits means he has a host of suitors with Shrewsbury Town hoping to land the attacker as they look to fight their way out of relegation trouble.

According to Pete O’Rourke, they face competition from Griggs former club, MK Dons, and League Two higher rollers Salford City, for his signature.

It is no surprise MK Dons are in the hunt. During his season on loan at Stadium MK in 2014/15, Grigg netted 20 goals in 44 league matches while Salford were trying to land the forward back in the summer.

Steve Cotterill’s side have been on a great run since the former Birmingham boss took charge, losing just once in his eight games. Their defeat at the weekend away to Sunderland highlighted their need for more firepower.

The Shrews created a number of presentable opportunities but they lacked the clinical edge to take them.

Salop take on Peterborough at the weekend with Steve Cotterill still recovering from COVID. From all at D3D4 Football, we wish him a speedy recovery.
