A host of EFL clubs including Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth are interested in signing Philadelphia Union defender Stuart Findlay, according to reports.

The 26-year-old Scottish international is looking for a move that will see him get more game time after playing only a bit part with his MLS outfit.

According to Football Insider, the player has no shortage of suitors with Oxford United, Preston, Blackpool and Barnsley all looking as well as clubs north of the border in Scotland.

The former Kilmarnock defender is a product of the Celtic academy but has played the bulk of his career for Killie having neer made a senior appearance for The Bhoys. He has made one senior appearance for the Scottish national side against San Marino in a 6-0 win back in October 2019 in which he scored the fifth goal.

He signed for Philadelphia Union in February 2021 but has only made nine appearances for the club with his current deal running until December 2022.

He told Football Scotland that it was a ‘dream’ to live in America but playing regular football was the ‘one missing piece of the puzzle.’

“Living in America has been a dream, it’s been amazing but the one missing piece of the puzzle is playing football on a Saturday. That’s what you do it for. I’d be a liar if I said I hadn’t missed that because it is tough not to play every week,” he said.

“It comes down to circumstance. I have been very unlucky not to play this year. The club have been delighted with me whenever I’ve spoken to them.”

Union are understood not to be actively shopping the player but will not stand in Findlay’s way should he find the right club this January.
