League One side Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to persuade Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson to join the club on loan, D3D4 Football understands.
The creative midfielder was excellent with Bristol Rovers in League Two last season and has many suitors this summer with a number of Championship clubs taking note.
The 19-year-old is also a target of The Gas who he helped win automatic promotion in 2021/22, with Joey Barton a huge admirer of the player. During his spell at the Memorial Stadium, Anderson recorded six assists and seven goals in 20 starts.
He also averaged 1.4 key passes per 90 and five touches in the opposition box per 90, both impressive stats for a player hoping to be a key influence in the attacking phase of whoever he joins this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday are keen to land the player but face competition from Stoke, West Brom and Luton amongst others.
The player has hinted at being agreeable to another loan move for the coming season, admitting playing time is the most important element for his development.
“I’ve just got to try and impress as much as I can really, and do my best,” he told NUFC TV. “I’ve got to try and compete for a place around the team and see how I can do.
“I think not trying too hard to do that (is important) – just do your stuff, and see if you catch an eye, and work as hard as you can. It’s kind of like a free hit – I’ll give it my best shot, and if they think I need another season out (on loan), I’m happy to do that. Whatever’s best for me.
“I’d say for me, probably playing games is the most important thing, to be honest – carrying on my run that I have, and just trying to keep striving. Hopefully, that’s here, or if it’s somewhere else on loan, I’ll be giving it my all.”
