Scunthorpe could be set to lose a key player as midfielder Funso Ojo looks to force a move north of the border.

The Belgian has been trying to get a move to Scottish side Hibernian over the line as he looks to leave the recently relegated Iron, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has played some excellent football since arriving at Glanford Park in 2017 but if now attempting to force a move to Hibs.

The issues arises over a clause in the player’s contract that would allow him to leave if Scunthorpe got relegated. Ojo and his representatives insist the midfielder activated the clause by the deadline, which was 31 May.

The club claim that the player did not activate the clause in time and is, therefore, still under contract. The disagreement appears to have put Hibs boss, Paul Heckingbottom, off with reports emerging that the Scottish side have pulled the plug on any prospective deal.

Either way, it makes the player’s position at Scunthorpe difficult although Paul Hurst is thought to want Ojo back for pre-season training as he prepares the Iron for a campaign in League Two.
