It is that time in the season when owners, fans and indeed managers start to take stock of how they have started the new campaign.  Ian Bradley, our Rotherham United Correspondent, gives you his take on the start the Millers start in League One…

Overview

Frustratingly inconsistent. Five wins & Five defeats.  A poor start at Fleetwood was a sign of the away form that was to come!

The Charlton defeat aside, very good at home from a side that thrashed Southend, Walsall and Oldham at the New York Stadium., flowing attacking football with lots of goals.

The Pompey win aside, frustratingly poor away from home, negative tactics & defensive mistakes.

Curates egg, good in parts.

Best player;

You’d expect me to say Kieffer Moore who has scored eight goals already & has been excellent, but I’m going for summer signing from our neighbours Barnsley Ryan Williams, a perpetual motion box to box midfielder with bags of skill & a fantastic work ethic.

Most surprising player;

Centre half Richard Wood. I honestly thought he would be released with the rest of last season’s dead wood (excuse the pun) but he has forced his way back into the side with some wholehearted performances & is an experienced old head at the back always helping & encouraging the younger players.

How have you done against expectations?

Pretty well really. I’d have snatched anyone’s hand off for our current 10th place after last season’s debacle. Warne is building not only his own team, but a good team spirit, a group of players who are friends as well as colleagues & the team are playing a free flowing brand of attacking football. We are by no means anywhere near the finished article yet, rather a work in progress & it may take another season or two to seriously challenge the Promotion places.
