Rotherham United have had a bid of £200k plus add-ons rejected for Southend’s highly rated midfielder Dru Yearwood.
The Yorkshire club are looking to bolster their midfield after Joe Newell left for Hibernian but have so far been rebuffed by the Shrimpers according to the Southend Echo.
Paul Warne is thought to have been impressed with the 19-year-old following an excellent start to last season.
The player was called up to the England U18 setup but was forced to drop out and struggled in the second half of the campaign due to suffering a hamstring injury.
It is thought that the initial offer of £200k included several add-ons that might have tempted the Blues to sell but Kevin Bond does not want to the youngster to leave.
Yearwood’s contract runs until the end of the 2021 season giving the Essex side time to consider their options.
The Millers are expecting Will Vaulks to leave the club this summer and are wanting to recruit a replacement but will have to come back with a better offer if they are to secure the services of a player who has, despite his tender years, already made 62 appearances for the Roots Hall outfit.
