Two late goals from Louis Reed and Ivan Toney guided Posh to their fourth straight win at home this season.

Posh looked to bounce back to winning ways this Saturday afternoon after a disappointing 3-3 draw against high flyers Wycombe Wanderers last Saturday.

In a pre-match Interview, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson spoke about how “When the fixtures came out, one of the first games I looked for was Lincoln at home”.

As the game got underway, the visitors received most of the ball, with the Posh struggling to make it out of their own half.

However, as the game progressed through it’s early stages, Posh showcased some of their beautiful attacking football which has seen both Mo Eisa and Ivan Toney sit comfortably at the top of the goal scoring charts. Beautiful crosses from Niall Mason and Marcus Maddison both found the head of Ivan Toney, however the former Newcastle man couldn’t convert his attempts at goal.

As half time dawned, neither teams had tested their opponents keeper until a powerful header from close range by Tyler Walker made Pym make his first save.

Seconds into the second half, a collision between Ivan Toney and Micheal O’Connor caused a six minute delay as medical staff come on to tend to the injured Lincoln City player.

As the game past an hour played, the tension was building for that all important first goal with attempts from both the Posh and the Imps missing the target.

In the 82nd minute, the deadlock was finally broken. A pass out to the edge of the box from Ivan Toney provided Louis Reed with a chance to smash the ball into the back of the net, which was taken emphatically.

Just six minutes later, Posh were on the scoresheet again with a brilliant long ball from Niall Mason reaching Ivan Toney and allowing him to chip the keeper from a tight angle.

As nine minutes were displayed on the 4th officials board, Lincoln’s efforts to reduce the lead were stopped by some fantastic saves from Posh keeper Christy Pym right at the death.

Posh now look ahead to next Saturday’s game away against former Posh boss Steve Evans and his Gillingham side. The Imps on the other hand host Shrewsbury Town on a Friday night at Sincil Bank.
