Plymouth Argyle have had a bid for defender Janoi Donacien turned down by Ipswich Town, according to reports.

The Pilgrims are looking to upgrade their backline during the transfer window but have seen their offer for the 27-year-old turned down.

Ryan Lowe’s men have struggled defensively this season and the Devon club are looking to shake things up in January. They have already allowed experienced centre-back Niall Canavan leave to Bradford and are now looking to sign a replacement.

According to the EADT, they want Janoi Donacien to be that man. The former Accrington player joined Ipswich for £750,000 back in 2019 and is out of contract this summer.

The Tractor Boys have rejected a bid from Argyle and are instead hoping to send the defender out on loan.

Plymouth are not thought to be interested in a temporary deal and may turn their attention elsewhere. The Pilgrims have only won two of their last 11 games in League One but are still placed comfortably in mid-table following a 1-0 win over Gillingham in their last outing.

They face Crewe at Home Park this weekend before taking on Sunderland on Tuesday night.
