Phil Parkinson has confirmed Sunderland have made an approach to Shrewsbury regarding midfielder Ollie Norburn.
Speaking ahead of his side’s match against Doncaster, the former Bolton boss gave the media an update about the situation regarding several transfer targets, including Gregg Docherty and Norburn.
With Charlton showing an interest in Black Cat target Gregg Docherty, they turned their attention to his former teammate at Shrewsbury, a player who Parkinson confirmed they are interested in signing.
“Another player we had watched and looked at, we made an enquiry about him,” he told the Echo.
“Honestly, it is just a number of situations we are weighing up and working on.”
When asked if the Docherty deal was completely dead he replied: “It is not completely dead.”
“At this stage there are many players we have spoken to, club and agents wise, some names come out, some don’t. Greg is one of those.”
Sunderland are on an unbeaten run of seven games including three straight wins. They are hoping to improve the squad during the transfer window bu Parkinson was very clear they would not bring players in for the sake of it.
“We only really want to get players in who will improve us, not just bring in for the sake of it.
“Will it go to the wire? Normally for one reason or another, the last day is busy.
“It is because other clubs are waiting to get players in, it is a domino effect, so it could well do if we bring anyone in.”
Sunderland face Doncaster on Friday with the Black Cats being the only side Doncaster have never taken a point from during their league history.
