Peterborough United are taking an interest in AFC Wimbledon starlet Ayuob Assal, according to reports.
The 20-year-old is a very talented player and fits the exact recruitment mould Posh have adopted for the last few years, which recently saw them add Ephron Mason-Clark from National League side Barnet.
Assal is highly rated by the Dons and the 20-year-old is a key player for Johnnie Jackson’s side as they look to bounce back from relegation last season.
Wimbledon will not be under any pressure to sell the player, who is contracted until the summer of 2024 having signed a new deal in May 2021. According to the Mirror, Peterborough are interested in the player but may not move for him this summer following the Mason-Clark signing.
The player came through the ranks with the Dons having started his youth football with Millwall. He first came to wider attention when he netted four times in 14 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
Last season, despite AFC Wimbledon’s relegation, he bagged eight goals in 42 appearances to cap an impressive personal season, getting widely praised by those at the club.
He is yet to find the net in 2022/23 but did set up one of the goals in the Dons 2-2 draw with Doncaster earlier this month.
Wimbledon have made a solid start to the season, drawing two, losing two and winning two of their opening six League Two matches.
