Pete Wild has left Oldham Athletic, according to club statement. It is understood that the former academy boss, who was appointed until the end of the season following Paul Scholes’ resignation in March, has resigned.

Wild, an Oldham fan himself, is thought to be looking to continue his work as a manager elsewhere. The man from Royton made his managerial debut for the Latics as caretaker boss following the sacking of Frankie Bunn in December. He recorded 4-1 win over Port Vale in his first match in charge  and went on to mastermind a historic win over Fulham in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Across both of his tenures as Latics boss, Wild oversaw 7 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses in League Two and his resignation comes with much disappointment to Oldham fans; whom not only enjoyed his style of football but also admired his love for the club and considered approach to the job.

On the departure, Owner Abdallah Lemsagam said: “Pete worked extremely hard for this club of which I am grateful for, but came to me today saying he wants to spend some time away from football.

“He’s a great guy, I’m sad to see him go and would’ve liked him to stay with the club but I respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”

It is expected this won’t be the only change of personnel at Latics, with players set to the leave the club. It is rumoured that Giles Coke, Rob Hunt and Dan Gardner have all been told to find new clubs, as well as fans favourite Jose Baxter and club captain Peter Clarke. Dan Gardner is expected to join his former club Chesterfield.
