Oxford United are aiming to sign Dundee United full-back Jamie Robson this summer, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been targetted by Karl Robinson as a potential replacement for club legend Josh Ruffels who left for Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

Oxford play a system where their full-backs play an important role in the attacking phases of the game and Ruffels departure was seen as a blow but the League One club are hoping they can get a deal done to replace their departing stalwart.

Jamie Robson is likely to be that man, according to Alan Nixon, with the Perth-born full-back coming off a decent campaign in the Scottish top-flight.

Oxford finished last season in the play-off places for the second campaign in a row but were defeated in the semi-finals by Blackpool, who went on to beat Lincoln at Wembley to seal promotion to the Championship.

The failure to achieve promotion was always going to leave the U’s vulnerable to losing key players and Ruffels departure will not have come as a surprise to many.

Robson should be a good replacement, however, with the left-back contributing two assists in 37 appearances last season for The Terrors. He is attack-minded and gets forward often which would suit Karl Robinson’s system.

He created eight chances from 89 crosses last year and should be within Oxford’s price range as they look for new recruits ahead of the 2021/22 season.
