Oldham Athletic have appointed Dino Maamria has Head Coach, following the dismissal of Laurent Banide earlier this evening.

Dino Maamria takes on the job under difficult conditions with the Latics languishing in 21st place in League Two. The 48-year-old recently managed Stevenage and led the Boro to a top-half finish. On taking the job he said Abdallah Lemsagam’s vision for the club was key in his decision in taking over:

“I’m hugely excited to join such an historical football club. The vision and ambition of the Chairman was a big factor and the first priority is to stabilise and unite this great football club.

“I’m here to win football matches as well as improve, give confidence and belief to an already talented squad.”

Banide was in charge of nine games but only recorded one win during his time in Lancashire. The Frenchman was coming under increasing pressure following two games in which his side lost two-goal leads.

In the statement Banide’s departure, the club stated a new Head Coach would be announced “soon” and the club stuck by its word when just 16 minutes later Maamria was revealed as the new man-in-charge.

This will be Lemsagam’s fifth managerial appointment since taking ownership of the club in January 2018. Oldham face Morecambe this weekend in what is already being mooted as a six-pointer.
