Oldham Athletic have made a second approach to sign Swindon midfielder Matty Palmer, according to reports.

Richie Wellens stated in a press conference that a “couple of offers” had been received from Oldham Athletic for the midfielder, though the former Rotherham man was more interested in moving to League One side Wigan Athletic.

Palmer has a history with Oldham, having spent half a season on loan with them in 2016. During this time he became a fans’ favourite for his technical and ball-playing ability. John Sheridan was Oldham manager at the time and Palmer helped keep his side in League One that season.

Harry Kewell’s side have made a couple of offers for the midfielder but could lose out to Wigan Athletic.

Following Sheridan’s appointment as Wigan boss, it is likely that Palmer will be keen to play under a manager that he is familiar with and got him playing well. It also provides an opportunity of football at a higher level than with League Two Oldham.

Wellens gave some other updates on outgoings at the County Ground:

“[Tom] Broadbent still injured so if someone does sign him they will have to take him knowing he isn’t fit. We don’t have much to update on [Cameron] McGilp”

Broadbent was recently told that he could leave Swindon, whilst McGlip has spent time on trial with Chesterfield. Swindon are next in action on Saturday 26 September when they host Burton Albion in League One.
