Northampton Town have announced that 13 members of their promotion-winning squad have been released from the club.

Those departing the Cobblers include mainstay centre-back Jordan Turnbull, midfielder Alan McCormack and veteran striker Andy Williams.

They join goalkeeper David Cornell, winger Paul Anderson and several bit-part players in leaving Northampton just three days after the club emphatically won promotion in a 4-0 victory over Exeter City at Wembley.

Meanwhile, new deals have been offered to three members of the squad who were due to exit this summer – striker Vadaine Oliver, long-serving forward Sam Hoskins and winger Michael Harriman.

Wide man Mark Marshall has also received a contract extension as a result of an automatic clause being triggered when the Cobblers won promotion to League One.

Young talents Shaun McWilliams and Scott Pollock have already signed new deals, the club revealed.

In a statement via the club, Curle said: “This is always a difficult part of the job, particularly after winning promotion on Monday night.

“My job is to make these decisions for the betterment of the football club and to look to the future.”

“I would like to thank all of the players collectively for their efforts. I cannot speak highly enough of their attitudes and their commitment.

“As we look to the future, there has to be a continued progression and development both individually and collectively as we look to continue our journey on our upward curve. As a club, our challenge this summer is to produce a squad that can be competitive in League 1 next season and that means we will need to strengthen in certain areas.”

Supporters expressed shock at the news that Jordan Turnbull would be departing after a two-and-a-half year stay which saw him become a key pillar of Northampton’s successful back three, alongside captain Charlie Goode and Blackburn loanee Scott Wharton.

Turnbull, 25, was signed by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in January 2018 and made 94 appearances for the Cobblers, including 42 in the promotion-winning season.
