Northampton Town have signed former Kilmarnock striker Nicke Kabamba in their first acquisition of the summer.

The 28-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Cobblers as manager Jon Brady begins rebuilding his side following relegation to League Two.

Kabamba, who at 6ft 3in will tower over many of the division’s defenders, was a talented sprinter as a schoolboy, and counts Portsmouth, Colchester and Hartlepool among his former clubs.

Joining Kilmarnock in January 2020, he made 47 appearances for the Scottish side in all competitions, netting nine goals.

He now becomes the first of many incoming players at Northampton this summer as Brady assembles his new-look squad.

Cobblers boss Brady said: “Nicke is a good size and is very mobile.

“With how we want to play, Nicke can help stretch teams for us with his pace and we think we are signing him at a good age with a good amount of experience under his belt.”

“He can link play, he can finish with both feet and he is very powerful.

“He can be a real handful to play against and the threats he offers can create space and opportunities for others.

“He is also a very good character and that is very important to us.”

Kabamba said: “I know a few friends who have been here and they have all spoken very highly of the club.

“I am delighted to be here and happy to be at a club that is ambitious to move forward.

“I have a long chat with the gaffer, he made it really easy for me to decide to come here and it is great for me that this has been sorted so early in the summer.”
