Northampton Town are looking to land Crystal Palace central defender Ryan Innis, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has spent most of his career out on loan, although it is not clear whether the Cobblers are expecting to sign the player on temporary terms or on a permanent deal.

Innis spent last season on loan with League Two Newport County and, at 6ft 5″ tall, offers a commanding presence at the heart of defence. He joined Palace in 2013 but has only made two appearances for the club, both in the League Cup.

Following the sale of Northampton defender Charlie Goode to Brentford, Keith Curle is looking for reinforcements and according to Alan Nixon, Innis fits the bill.

During his spell at Rodney Parade, the defender played in 22 league games scoring once. He has also had loan spells at eight other clubs including Port Vale, Southend and Colchester.

He has a reputation for being a fiery character and was suspended for five games last season after biting an opponent in the EFL Trophy clash between Newport and West Ham U21s.

Northampton have made a solid start to their League One campaign, losing once, drawing once and winning once in three games so far.

They were defeated by Hull City on Saturday and will be hoping to bounce back next weekend when they face Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.
