Northampton Town could face a battle to keep hold of forward Daniel Powell with a Scottish Premier League outfit looking to sign the player.

Motherwell are looking to continue their summer recruitment drive by bringing in the Cobblers versatile star after a solid campaign in 2018-19.

Well are on the hunt for a replacement after Curtis Main signed for Aberdeen. They have been interested in Daniel Powell for 18-months and are now in a position to tempt the player north of the border after freeing up some wages according to reports.

Last season Northampton finished a disappointing 16th after amounting just 61 points following relegation from League One the previous season.

Keith Curle took over and is hoping to build a team capable of challenging at the top end of the table and would not want to lose Daniel Powell.

The 28-year-old scored six goals, notched five assists and created 19 chances in 35 League Two appearances last season.

His versatility could give Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson some good options at both striker and left wing.

The Scottish side finished last season’s first phase in eighth place and comfortably avoided the drop in the second phase round of matches. They have already signed five players this summer including Declan Gallagher and Danish international Casper Sloth.
